Fourth Grade Music
In fourth grade, we have music two times per week for 40 minutes each time. One time each class comes for a general music period. On Wednesday mornings, all the fourth graders go to instrumental lesson or music class at the same time.
We continue to learn how to read and write music, a rigorous process that begins with audiating (hearing music in our brains) and progresses through learning by rote, decoding, creating, reading, and writing.
We spend a significant amount of time on music arrangements that are more complex, involving multiple vocal and instrumental parts coming together as an ensemble.
We also learn about African American spirituals, the Blues, and Jazz.
